His Grace

I LOVE being a missionary but sometimes it's a struggle. I've never kicked myself so hard (mentally) and wanted to beat myself up so much. The pressure to be the "perfect" missionary (which doesn't exist) is unattainable and the harder you try the harder you are on yourself. There was a day this past week where I was writing in my journal, reflecting on the day, and just wanting to knock my head several times on the wall and cry. The frustration I felt in myself of even all the little things I've could've done or could've explained better really dug into myself deep. There's a lot of stress to following the high standards of being a missionary and getting done the things that need to be done or saying the right things. It's like trying to reach for the stars when you can't even touch the lowest branch of the tree! And you just kick yourself even harder for it! BUT here is what I'm learning... During personal studies I read "His Grace is Sufficient" by Brad Wilcox - please please please take some time to read this! As I read, I felt this incredible amount of love from the Savior. His LOVE is REAL!
"When a young pianist hits a wrong note, we don’t say he is not worthy to keep practicing. We don’t expect him to be flawless. We just expect him to keep trying. Perfection may be his ultimate goal, but for now we can be content with progress in the right direction. Why is this perspective so easy to see in the context of learning piano but so hard to see in the context of learning heaven?
Too many are giving up on the Church because they are tired of constantly feeling like they are falling short. They have tried in the past, but they always feel like they are just not good enough. They don’t understand grace.
"...When learning the piano, are the only options performing at Carnegie Hall or quitting? No. Growth and development take time. Learning takes time. When we understand grace, we understand that God is long-suffering, that change is a process, and that repentance is a pattern in our lives. When we understand grace, we understand that the blessings of Christ’s Atonement are continuous and His strength is perfect in our weakness (see 2 Corinthians 12:9). When we understand grace, we can, as it says in the Doctrine and Covenants, “continue in patience until [we] are perfected” (D&C 67:13)." Again, the love I felt as I read and pondered helped strengthened my testimony that His Grace is real. And every aspect of this gospel is true!
We had incredible experiences this past week! First, we got a brand new car - it still smells like new car! We also met and had incredible lessons with so many awesome people! There are so much potential! It's a struggle to keep up! There were a lot of tender mercies of showing up at the right place at the right time. Basically, now when I look back at the week I can see where Christ's Grace has been making up the difference. I'm so grateful for It and His love. I can say from the deepest part of my soul that His love is real and can be felt. Especially after praying (:
Thank you for your love and prayers! It means a ton (:
Remember Christ lives and He loves you!
I LOVE you!!

Hands of God and A Solar Eclipse!

You know it's God's hand working when your plans don't go according to plan.. (; It's been a testimony!
Our Yamhill baptism this past week went super good! Everything worked out and went so smoothly (super grateful after the craziness of taking over the baptism last minute!)
Wednesday night we had splits with the YSA again and it seems like the craziest things happen during this time! We felt prompted and went to a home we were told specifically not to go to or it would be bad.. We wanted to meet James, a newly returned missionary from the Seattle mission (he has an awesome conversion story) but was warned there were anti people at his home and specifically not to have the missionaries (us) come. So we planned Sara (RM) and I would stay in the car while Daniel goes to meet him.. a few minutes later the mom comes out of the house and motions for us to come in! Ah! And she says she LOVES the missionaries! (What? This was not what I heard earlier that day!) It was so crazy! We went in and got to meet James, talk about missions and ate cake and ice cream! The visit was super good (:
On Fridays, Dayton has this awesome gathering at the park each week in the summer for people to come and sell stuff, play music, car show, socialize, and an incredible experience of bringing the whole community together! I LOVE it! It's a perfect time to talk to people and it's been so fun to be part of!
Saturday and Sunday were off days but still pretty cool. This was when the plans we had set didn't go according to plan but we got to see God directing us where to go! They were really cool missionary experiences of being able to be in the right places and to share testimony! And see tender mercies (:
Also! The SOLAR ECLIPSE happened today! We were in the line of totality and it was SO COOL! It was crazy to see it get dark so quickly right up to the point of totality and see the sun's corona! Ah! It was incredible! Also the traffic and everything wasn't so bad! At least not until after, there were lines of cars trying to leave! (It was a lot of traffic for a small town like Dayton).
It's crazy the experiences we all have of life going in a completely different direction than we had planned. Sister Lamb and I have been talking about it and it's incredible how things will work out. I read this scripture this past week and thought it was perfect! "Know ye not that ye are in the hands of God?" (Mormon 5:23). I love this opportunity I have to get to know my Heavenly Father and Savior more! It's incredible how everything happens for a reason but to also know there is an infinite being of pure love out there watching over us. He knows so much more than we do!
Thank you for the LOVE and SUPPORT! I LOVE you!! Stay Safe and GOOD LUCK to everyone going back to school!!

Dayton 1st - YSA - Yamhill

This has been the most craziest week of my mission! But it's been incredible!
I am now in Dayton with Sister Lamb! She's from American Fork, has been out 6 weeks and is a pretty amazing missionary! I LOVE her and I LOVE it here so much already :)
Here's the crazy stuff: we are covering the Dayton 1st ward also the McMinnville YSA (young single adult) branch AND just got the Yamhill Ward people! Including a baptism this week! WE ARE SO CRAZY BUSY! We basically cover the whole stake. It's just been so crazy! I still can't believe it all. There's no way we'd be able to do everything we've had to do without the spirit guiding us and the strength from God!
And it's been so fun :) working with YSA is the BEST! Every Wednesday night we go on splits with them so I got to go with Melanie (RS president) and Daniel (RM) to see a few less actives in the branch from Yamhill and Carlton. While walking to one of the places I did a double look back as someone was coming out of their house, got busted with the double look by the RM and went back to talk with them (no pressure) - we got a new investigator family!
Seriously, it's been so crazy and fun! I'm SO GRATEFUL to be serving a mission! I'm grateful for the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost and the protection it provides! I LOVE the gospel and the message I share!
I LOVE you! Have an incredible week!

Dayton

Transfer calls: I am being transferred to the Dayton 1st Ward and YSA! I'll be following up training Sister Lamb! Ah!
It's been an incredibly HOT week (atleast for Oregon)! But it's been fruitful (: We've been working more on finding and talking to everyone. It's been good experiences and I've been so impressed with how sweet everyone is here! I'm going to miss cute little Brownsville!
Adventures: Raking dead grass! I guess I still look 13 yrs old (; putting in an AC unit! Hah. PB&J's & chocolate milk in the park - BEST dinner ever! Back out to Peoria.
I'm SO blessed to been able to serve here in the Brownsville Branch! Looking back, I've seen so many miracles and got to know amazing people! I've also seen an incredible change in myself. I've received so much love and support and I feel your prayers giving me strength. I know God puts us where we are for special reasons (:
I LOVE you! Thank you for being part of my life and the amazing impact you make in the lives of others. Stay strong! Keep moving forward with faith (:
